Back to the Beginning

As I finish Cara Hunter’s 4th Adam Fawley book, All the Rage, it takes me right back to the beginning of lockdown when I first undertook the interviewing role for UK Crime Book Club, as Cara was the first author to appear on my weekly show, after the festivals, which started me off.



This means as a consequence, even though it’s a while since I read her third book, this led to an interesting interview, especially with the arc of All the Rage leading to a number of personal twists for Fawley, because it meant that Cara had to discuss it without giving anything away, as she said it had some subtle links to book no5.



I could remember her discussing this as I read it, so I had some idea of where the book may have gone. But having just read Murder in the Family because of the preparation for the interview that this will involve, I can definitely see Cara’s fascination with true crime as a plot device, as true crime has appeared in both of these plots. Although not as twisty as her latest, there are still a lot of twists in the series that I have become used to through my reading of police procedurals. However, it is the complex backstory of Adam Fawley that has kept me intrigued to read them and determined to have Cara involved in my latest project.



With stalking, incel culture and large elements of social media, this book, despite being several years old, has themes that are still being discussed today, as incels were a major plank of this years’ Bloody Scotland, as discussed by Craig Sisterson and his panel. With all these complex social issues, this book is one of Cara’s best and I hope that anyone who hasn’t read this yet, gives it a go.
