Introducing Newsagent and ComicScene

ComicScene ‘Newsagent’ came out of our February 2023 exhibit of over 70 U.K. & Ireland comics produced in the last year – and that was only the tip of comic creativity out there.

It struck me, unless you were doing a website or magazine about comics and following multiple accounts that the sheer volume of material means you might not know about all the comics available (particularly after a successful kickstarter has ended)

So ‘Newsagent’ was born. Over 1000 of you have already visited and hopefully got your favourite comics from there. Access it here.

Newsagent and nominate in the ComicScene Awards 2024

There are over 100 titles in Newsagent which link directly to the publishers / creators websites and we hope to have 200 titles in there at one time so it will change weekly. Take a look. It’s just like checking the shelves in your local WHSmith where the cover can entice you in to your favourites. You may even want to nominate for some in the ComicScene Awards! These awards are chosen by you and voted by you. Nominate here

Voices

With so much noise on social media and algorithms not sharing creators social media posts as much as they use to we also created VOICES – so you can share the background of creating your comics on our website. This is a free service. It’s not an ‘AD’, it’s your story, told your way. It could even be an article you share on your own website, substack or blog. We share that on our website, email list, social media and send to people we think might be interested to know more about what you have to say. More details about Voices here.

Comic Digital Library

Creators can also choose to add your older comics to our Comic Digital Library (Volume 2 is being curated now) which you get a share of the profits from. Or as we have expanded our memory space you can now also share them for free on our website as part of your promotion for your new comic or kickstarter. Or just because you want more people to read your comic. Check out a preview of volume one here.

Get paid to write and create

This coverage gets you noticed and can lead to an article about your work in the new ComicScene Magazine. We may pay you to write an article about your comic or pay you to draw a comic strip. If you like to write about comics then contributing to VOICES is a way of getting our attention. We are a hobby magazine but pay double the word rate of most specialist titles and can pay up to £200 a page for comic strips.

Comic Industry Directory

Creators, publishers and retailers can also be added to the Comic Industry Directory which we share with publishers, comic shops, comic events, schools, colleges, uni courses, libraries and community groups. This can lead to work, commissions, workshops, talks and guest appearances. Check out the Comic Industry Directory here. The Comic Industry Directory is free to use or access. It also appears in the ComicScene Magazine.
