Understanding India

With 2 days to go until my first live and in person festival appearance, the books of A.A. Dhand, Abir Mukherjee and Vassem Khan, between them have allowed me to understand a culture I knew nothing about before reading their books. A.A. Dhand is an author who has illustrated to me the complexities of Sikhism in both Bradford and India in his Virdee series and his latest book, The Blood Divide.



This book was a highly complex journey novel incorporating both Bradford and India in the same book. Jack Baxi and his journey to uncover the complexities of this plot, covers everything from illegal business practices, prostitution and mental breakdown. The illustration of Indian society through the taxi driver Cruise, was a comedic twist that I wasn’t expecting at the start of the book and shows the versatility of Dhand’s writing talent.



This was a highly entertaining journey with a dramatic finish and had an underpinning backstory which I’m really glad I chose to read.
