Nyx- Zeus' nightmare!
We all know Zeus was to be feared, Father of the Sky and the Gods, capable of stripping even Posiedon and Apollo of their divinity. He flooded the earth, may have created mortals in some stories, was capable of incredible evil deeds, violated many, obliterated entire cities... The god was the definition of terror... And yet, there was some he feared. Above them all was Nyx, Primordial Goddess of Night, Mother of a countless many gods and daimons and monsters including Sleep, Death, Day, Light and Upper Air, and so many other beings that mold our lives and world. Hypnos, God of Sleep, one of her sons, was coerced by Hera into weilding his vast powers on Zeus so she could harm others as was her wont. When he awoke, Zeus chased Hypnos far and wide until the God of Sleep landed in the arms of his loving mother. Zeus took one look at her, and knew he outmatched. He made a threat to warn Hypnos to never do that again, but the god in question went entirely unpunished and in fact used his powers on Zeus once more at Hera's request earning himself his wife. That moment though, when Zeus was stopped by Nyx, set a powerful mark in mythology. One of power, skill and wrath. Nyx was among a rare few that could and would destroy even Zeus if he tried anything funny, and that made her at least in my eyes an idol. She is so under used in media, why not refrence this powerful elder goddess, who's powers could frighten even the kind of the gods, the most arrogant of the immortals. She could revolutionize this odd habit we have of only including or refrencing the male dieties when it comes to empowering or siring divine heroes! So, just a request, if you are writing Greek Mythology stories, never forget this amazing goddess who made such a mark on history blending powerful abilities and maternal force! So... yeah!
