“The Count Has A Case”
Count Gatto and his sidekick Shadow are Law-abiding citizens now? Come on, what are they playing at? Ever since Professor Invento accidentally trapped Shadow in his new invention, those two knuckleheads have been acting fishy. Have they gone on the straight and narrow? It will take Atomic Mouse and Professor Invento’s new Ray Ship to get to the bottom of this case.
“Ho Hum, Everybody”
Everyone needs a good eight hours shut-eye but this is ridiculous. Thanks to Professor Invento, his new sleep inducing raygun can help all those with sleeplessness. Unfortunately for Mouseville, Count Gatto just stole the prototype right out from under Atomic Mouse’s nose. Things don’t look good for the citizens or their valuables.
“Atomic Mouse”
It’s time to teach Shadow a lesson in Propaganda. If your turf is being challenged by a rival gang, spreading rumors is one tactic in spreading fear and confusion. Hey, what a great idea! Count Gatto is about to start the ultimate turf war between Atomic Mouse and the God of War, Mars.

It’s the latest fad in mechanical Lifeguard technology. The only problem is someone has other ideas for its use. Lookout Atomic Mouse!

How many donuts does it take to make a glutton? Fuzzy Bear is about to find out as he tests his friend’s patience. Can Benny Beaver comprehend the power of a bear’s stomach? Time to make the donuts!
“Timmy the Timid Ghost”
The Ghost family pet, Polly, hasn’t said a word in quite some time. Better call the doctor. Is it the flu, or maybe chicken pox? Let the undead expert in physiology check the bird out from beak to tail feathers.

Riding the wave of cartoon animal superheroes during America’s atomic age, Charlton Comics created several nuclear powered critters. In this case the readers were introduced to Atomic Mouse. The character, a mouse named Cimota, received his powers from the eccentric scientist Professor Invento. Powered by the mysterious U-235 pill, Mouseville’s newest hero has takes to the streets to administer law and order. Can he stop the notorious Count Gatto? Collect the series to find out!
This series was developed by artist Al Fago who was famous for his animal characters. At Charlton Comics alone he brought Atom the Cat, Atomic Rabbit, and Atomic Mouse to the newsstands. I have to admit I love these old cartoons. It’s a shame that the characters from big budget studios like Disney and Warner Brothers really cornered the market, and eventually pushed out these less well known characters.
I found it interesting that Atomic Mouse resorts to eating a super-pill to power up, which is the exact same premise as Popeye the Sailor and his cans of spinach. It would be interesting to research this comic trope for other characters. In any case, this was a very fun read even though my age range was not the target market for the series.
Charlton Comics really did give a lot of content back in the day. Atomic Mouse is basically an anthology book but there is enough here to keep children busy for a few hours. Parents must have loved this stuff. I’m giving Atomic Mouse #18 four out of five stars.
