Not to be outdone, Kirkus Reviews has now released its own nominations for the “ Best Mysteries and Thrillers of 2023 .” It’s a rather idiosyncratic list, and two of the dozen works included didn’t even win starred reviews this year. Nonetheless, those novels I managed to read from this selection were remarkable.
• The Lost Americans , by Christopher Bollen (Harper)
• Green for Danger , by Christianna Brand (Poisoned Pen Press)
• Blaze Me a Sun , by Christoffer Carlsson (Hogarth)
• One Last Kill , by Robert Dugoni (Thomas & Mercer)
• Night Will Find You , by Julia Heaberlin (Flatiron)
• Reykjavik , by Ragnar Jónasson and Katrín Jakobsdóttir (Minotaur)
• Every Man a King , by Walter Mosley (Mulholland)
• Bright Young Women , by Jessica Knoll (S&S/Marysue Rucci)
• The Stolen Coast , by Dwyer Murphy (Viking)
• Code of the Hills , by Chris Offutt (Grove Press)
• A Line in the Sand , by Kevin Powers (Little, Brown)
• Crook Manifesto , by Colson Whitehead (Doubleday)
