Preparing for Derby

Two days before my event with Tom, in Derby, I’ve finished his latest “Spectre” illusionist novel and am now preparing for the event at the Quad. The complex nature of this golden age mystery incorporates classic illusions, like the bullet catch, alongside references to Sherlock Holmes. You can see where Tom gets his influences from. With a large enough cast to confuse the audience and more than one mystery throughout the seven hours, there’s a lot there to entertain the reader. With one third of the novel dedicated to the solution, this shows how well crafted the book is. With lots of twists and turns, you have to listen to every word. Sometimes though, I wish I was like most other readers and could have a pad and paper to hand to follow all the clues, which are there to allow you to solve the mystery. With elements like, the theatre construction and the locked room mystery, which Tom seems to enjoy. There will be lots to talk about in Derby. I’m really looking forward to talking to Tom and Steven.
