Nothing gets me aroused more than a good barcode. Here is my list of the Top Ten barcoded comics. This list is not based on sales at all. Some are quite valuable, others would only make a nice fire. Now I could easily make a boring list with books like ASM 300, New Mutants 98 and Clone Wars 1 all of which sell for insane sums as newsstands but where is the fun in that? Hopefully you see something on year that you can’t help but add to your want list.

1 Lobo’s Big Babe Summer Break Special
Jim Balent has done some amazing covers, many of which have yet to be fully appreciated by the masses. This is easily the best use of a barcode ever.
2 Silver Surfer 20 ( 1989 )
This one isn’t even a newsstand! What an odd comic. The artist made the UPC/Surfer’s board a character on the cover of a direct edition book!
3 Doctor Strange 71
Into the Dark Dimension with Roger Stern! This nifty little blink-and-you-miss-it art piece by Paul Smith makes me smile.
4 All New Flintstones 13
I cannot confirm this but it appears that the earliest barcode on a comic was this issue from 1975. I am no expert but those barcode numbers don’t seem right to me!
5 Superman Man of Steel 42 DCU Price Sticker Variant
If you know me then my obsession with DCU variants is unhealthy so of course they need to make my list. This is one of the more rare DCU variants but who knew there was a non stickered version? Call these 5a and 5b.
6 Star Wars:Heir to the Empire 1 ( Newsstand Sticker Variant )
There is no real consensus as to when and why this was made but not all of the stickers match which has made my shy away from buying one. Still, it sells for a ton.
7 Superman 104: DCU Stickered Variant
I think any collector of this sort of thing would expect Man of Steel 42 to be the only stickered DCU on this list but most people have no clue there were other stickered barcode comics. This one also had an edition with a DCU UPC logo that is not stickered.
8 Star War Heir to the Empire 1 No sticker newsstand Pack Variant
Another Thrawn book makes my list and even though I cannot say for sure, it appears that this one came in a Dark Horse pack. The barcode is on the pack so it is not on the comic. Me, I prefer the pack and it better be sealed. Dark Horse did release other Star Wars books in packs like that have the same blank barcode. CGC labels these a newsstand too.
9 Batman 457 2nd Print Newsstand Variant
This book has causes hunters headaches for years. There are a few known copies. Make sure you check the indicia which should read : Batman 457 along with a label for a 2nd print. There is nothing more painful than hitting a pocket of these and coming up short.
10 Amazing Spider-Man 313 Mark Jeweler CGC 9.8
Do you know how hard it is to get a Mark Jeweler Todd book, never mind a cgc 9.8? Plus this is my all time favorite cover my McFarlane. It sold for 1600 and IMO that was a steal.
Ralph Wiggum Comics 1 Newsstand
There are soooo many newsstands that sell for crazy prices. This is one of those rare books that is very hard to find but a must for Simpsons collectors, unicorns lovers and fans of puppies and rainbows.
Superman 9 ( DCU Stickered Variant?! )
OK I had no idea there was one of these for sale on Ebay. If only I hadn’t spent all my extra funds on Patriots season tickets.
