In the lead-up to ARR2024 in March 2024 we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Bernadette Rowley . Bernadette will be signing in Brisbane.
Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?
Marie Force. I came across her Gansett Island series and loved her style and how one story triggered new characters who needed their HEA. I like to think I do the same thing with my fantasy romance. And yes! I met her at an RWA conference. It was one of the highlights of my author career.
How long have you been reading romance?
I read Mills & Boon as a new adult, then turned to epic fantasy reading for a couple of decades. Now I’m back reading romance of all styles—contemporary, fantasy, historical, romantic suspense … I’m sure there are several more subgenres I’ve dipped my toe into. I’m now 58 and love reading romance more than ever.
What genres do you write?
As mentioned, I write fantasy romance and romantic fantasy. I’ve written space opera and junior fiction as well (unpublished).
What is your favourite part of creating a story?
I don’t plot heavily, so I love the way a story just magically comes together. I also love editing—it appeals to my dominant left brain.
Tell us about your latest release:
My latest release was Of Queens and Dragons , book 11 in my Queenmakers Saga. It was the culmination of ten years of publishing and completed the series to all intents and purposes.
What else are you working on at the moment?
Having answered the former question, what I’m working on is a wedding novella featuring Alecia and Vard, the premiere couple in my saga. They are the reason for the series and though they have their HEA, I really believe readers need to see them married.
