Now that James Wan is confirmed to be taking on Cthulhu, I think it is important to highlight any comics you need to know about. I would like to think this would be a bigger deal in the comic community but these days who knows? I hope you find something worth adding to your want lists!

Skull Comics 4
First appearance of Cthulhu
This little know first is a true rarity in high grade. If you collect Lovecraft comics you already know how adaptations show up in the strangest places.
Conan the Barbarian 17
First appearance of Dagon
I am going to list first for many key characters including this first for Dagon the demon lord of the abyss! Dagon first appeared in The Vagrant going all the way back to 1917. We have know way of knowing if Wan is going to try a faithful adaptation, adapt something new or do what marvel does and cherry pick the Cthulhu mythos.
2000 A.D. 1357
First appearance of Hastur
Hastur the Great Old One was originally created by Ambrose Bierce and later used by Lovecraft in The Whisper of Darkness. As a big fan of Robert Chambers The King in Yellow, it is of interest to me that Lovecraft was a fan too and wove elements of his narratives into his own work.
Journey Into Mystery 4
First appearance of Nyarlathotep ( Outer God ) and Robert Blake
This one includes an adaptation of a Lovecraft story.
Ramba 6
First appearance of Azathoth
Ah the lord of all things…who knows if he would ever appear but it is worth owning this book regardless.
Necronomicon 2
First appearance of the Elder Gods ( team )
Star Reach 10
First appearance of Abdul Alhazred ( writer of the Necronomicon )
Tales of the Leather Nun
First appearance of the Great Old Ones
Cthulhu also appears here making it his second appearance.
Eerie 4
First appearance of Shoggoths
The Savage Sword of Conan 152
First appearance of Yog-Sothoth
H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu: The Festival 1
First appearance of Randolph Carter
This one is a must read and if you have the envelope shown below that contains all three book you sure have a rare set!
Savage Sword of Conan 125
First appearance of Shub-Niggurath
Heavy Metal 6
First appearance of Wilbur Whatetley
This one is a must for any fan of Lovecraft.
The Haunter of the Dark
First appearance of Yig
Swamp Thing 114
First standard comic appearance of the Deep Ones
Journey Into Mystery 3
First appearance of the Necronomicon
—–OTHER STUFF—–
This section is reserved for all the other stuff I am looking for this week. True Firsts may or may not appear.
Here is a group of rarities including 2nd prints, variants and other treats that are all solid Cthulhu buys .
Metal Hurlant 33 ( French, 1973 )
Alberto Breccia adapted a few Lovecraft stories here and elsewhere in the 70’s. This one is a tough find
El Monje Loco 52
First comic adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s work
This issue adapts the short Colour out of Space which was recently made into a Nicholas Cage film! It is also an un-credited adaptation which is probably why it is rarely noted as a Lovecraft comic.
Vidas Ilustres 292
First appearance of HP Lovecraft in a comic ( as a person ), First appearance of the Deep Ones
All I have to day is good luck on this one.
