Character Matters: Arthur D. Hittner

What is the name of your character?  Burt Mason Where does your novel take place?  Inside an itinerant circus in midwestern United States during the Depression. What is the most interesting thing about your character?  Burt is an accomplished artist who grudgingly adapts to the collapse of the fine art market by joining a circus. Posing as “Michelangelo of the Midway”, he draw caricatures of circus patrons to eke out a meager living. What is the primary conflict your character must face?  Burt falls in love with a beautiful bareback rider.  When an opportunity arises to work with famed Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton on a major mural cycle, Burt must choose between a burgeoning love and the advancement of his flagging career. What is the personal goal of your character?  To return to the art world for which he trained. What is the title of your novel?  Michelangelo of the Midway When will readers get to meet your main character?  The book, which is my third art novel, was released on Amazon on April 7, 2021.
