In the lead-up to ARR2024 in March 2024 we will be spotlighting the authors who will be signing. In the spotlight today we have Brooklyn Dean . Brooklyn will be signing in Sydney.
Who was the first romance author to catch your interest?
I fell in love with romance as a teenager, thanks to a second-hand Nicholas Sparks novel at a beach-side market. Nowadays, I adore Mazey Eddings, Tessa Bailey and Julia Quinn, with numerous new faves in my TBR pile waiting to be discovered.
How long have you been reading romance?
I’ve been reading romance since high school, but rediscovered my passion for both reading and writing ‘kissing stories’ during lockdown.
What genres do you write?
I mainly write contemporary rom-com stories, dabbling in urban fantasy for a fairytale retelling anthology. I also write non-linear middle-grade adventures under BC Dean.
What is your favourite part of creating a story?
My favourite part of creating a story is developing characters. I love the process of learning who they are, why they think the way they do, and how they interact in their world. If I don’t know them intimately, their secrets, their innermost workings, and every freckle, then their story isn’t ready to be told yet.
Tell us about your latest release:
My debut novel, The Write Way for Love , is my latest release, preceded only by another debut—a novella: Meet Me in Moonshine . Both form part of my Moonshine Romances, a series of interconnected standalone rom-coms set in the fictional small town of Moonshine, Australia. They are quirky and fun, full of humour and heart.
What else are you working on at the moment?
I am currently working on the next Moonshine series novel: The Insufferable Adam James (coming June, 2024). Enemies to lovers might just be my favourite to write (but not to edit—the banter is LONG and strong! Haha!) I’m also editing my urban fantasy retelling of Red Riding Hood for the Once Upon a Fairytale anthology, and in the process of illustrations/formatting for my middle-grade adventure book.
