Outside Looking In for 2/2/24
Welcome to a new column that will spotlight some comics that didn’t quite make the Hot 10 List. Think of this as the honorable mentions and some comics that may not qualify for the regular Hot 10 List.
You might be surprised that some of these didn’t make the main list, but that is not a disservice to any of these books, but a credit to those that made it. Some of the below just didn’t quite have the price increase or volume to warrant a spot yet.
If you haven’t noticed, I do not include any Exclusives on the Main List (Store, Convention, or otherwise). I just don’t feel its equal footing to include those books on the regular list, so I don’t use them there. But sometimes there are Exclusives worth noting, and this is where you may find them going forward, on the Outside Looking In.
Ultimate Invasion #1 2nd Print
Nearly repeating on the main list, this is still showing pretty strong sales dwarfing most other books on the main list if we just look at volume alone.
However this week is no where close to the volume of last week and prices are also a bit softer on average despite a high around $45, most sales have seemed to settled back down around $20-30.
28 Days Later #1
Not a ton of volume yet with only a few sales, but the price is starting to pop to $10-15 for this 1st issue following an update that they are still moving forward with the sequel movie, 28 Years Later.
There are 3 different covers, a 2nd print, and an incentive to be mindful of as well.
The Sentry #1
Interest had started to wane when Steven Yeun was removed as The Sentry in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, but this week has some new rumors on a possible replacement and it is starting to slowly move again.
A casting confirmation may spike it even more, but raws are back to a solid $80-100 and CGC 9.8s have settled in at $250
Rogue Trooper #1
While the 1st appearance is actually in 2000 AD #228, interest has been renewed in this more affordable and easier to obtain reprint in the states.
News of an animated project has renewed interest in this book which was a great dollar bin find for years. It’s still a cheap book that has sold a handful of copies this week for about $5 and under, but there was a standout CGC 9.8 that hit $160 on a best offer. So something to monitor.
Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2000)
Given the frenzy over the new Peter Parker story, why not look at the original Ultimate Spider-Man #1? Not a ton of sales at the moment but prices have been interesting.
Condition sensitive, but with nearly no sales the last couple weeks we had a couple higher grade raw sales hit $70 and $100 this week. Prices have been inconsistent for years on this book, but this is something to keep an eye on.
This list will also be covered each week on my channel by my friends on their Friday Night show, The Qualified: We’re All a Little Damaged. The fellas cover the week’s news in comics and pop culture, and have many other fun comic segments and artist spotlights. Check them out every week on The Qualified at about 9:30pm est immediately following the CBSI Hot 10 Show.
