Outside Looking In for 2/9/24
Welcome to a new column that will spotlight some comics that didn’t quite make the Hot 10 List. Think of this as the honorable mentions and some comics that may not qualify for the regular Hot 10 List.
You might be surprised that some of these didn’t make the main list, but that is not a disservice to any of these books, but a credit to those that made it. Some of the below just didn’t quite have the price increase or volume to warrant a spot yet.
If you haven’t noticed, I do not include any Exclusives on the Main List (Store, Convention, or otherwise). I just don’t feel its equal footing to include those books on the regular list, so I don’t use them there. But sometimes there are Exclusives worth noting, and this is where you may find them going forward, on the Outside Looking In.
Ultimate Black Panther #1 1:10
Yes all covers are selling but I didn’t want to have 3 or more covers on the main list for the same comic.
That said, this 1:10 incentive is performing quite well selling 40+ copies his week for $25-30. A nice surprise when compared to the 1:10 Incentive for Ultimate Spidey which still sells for only like $10-15.
Amazing Spider-Man #210
Another 30 sales this past week as we are on the cusp of the release of Madame Web. This film may not be trending to perform very well at the box office, but many people I know are still planning to see it.
Prices and volume seem pretty consistent over the last couple weeks so this doesn’t have that cache to warrant a spot on the main list. But volumes and prices remain strong on this 1st appearance of Madame Web, so its still worth noting.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #1 1:50
Only 3 sales this week for this 1:50 written by the original Pink Power Ranger, this makes the list based on an outlier sale of $180 this week that was bookended by 2 $60 sales.
So hard to read where this one might go given that current asks are $66-100. That outlier is throwing things off as this cover was also recently used for a Megacon Exclusive and I believe a 2nd print for this issue has also been announced.
DC’s How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days #1 1:25
Only a handful of sales of this 1:25 in the $35 range this week which is why it wasn’t quite enough to make the main list.
I personally like this cover. It’s fun. But I’m not sure there are that many out there as how many shops order these specials in volume.
Wynonna Earp #1
Many credit this cover to Jim Lee, but he only inked it. I can his influence, but these are not his pencils.
That said a recent announcement that a Wynonna Earp Special is coming to Tubi later this year has already triggered a handful of sales for a book that has been hiding in dollar boxes for ages.
Only selling for $5-8 so far, this is one that folks are now digging it of boxes and throwing on the market as we speak. The full 5-issue mini is selling for $20-25. We’ll see how it goes.
This list will also be covered each week on my channel by my friends on their Friday Night show, The Qualified: We’re All a Little Damaged. The fellas cover the week’s news in comics and pop culture, and have many other fun comic segments and artist spotlights. Check them out every week on The Qualified at about 9:30pm est immediately following the CBSI Hot 10 Show.
