The Wednesday One REBOOT

Every week we look at the new comics coming out and figure out what’s selling, what has potential, and what’s worth reading.  Lets dive in!!

Already Selling

Spider-Gwen: Smash #3 1:25 Yagawa Variant
Already selling well above ratio.  Not really sure why, but you don’t really need to know to make money off it.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 2nd Print
As of this writing, the issue is selling for double cover.  Makes sense as the first print was under-ordered and the story was phenomenal.

Has Potential

Black Panther #9 Akande Black History Month Variant
Second time this as-yet unnamed New Champion has shown up on a cover.  Given that Marvel teased the New Champions actually showing up this year in comics, this variant may be worth rolling the dice on

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 1:25 Baldeon Variant
There have been a surprisingly large number of presales on this book.  I am iffy on this one, but I think it may be worth keeping an eye on

Penthouse Comics #1 All Covers
So there have already been a ton of sales for this book.  The concept is certainly intriguing and it’s not like cheesecake has ever prevented success in comics.  That being said, there are like a million covers, so it’s tough to know if any one in particular is worth picking up.  One to watch for sure.

Vampirella #666 All Covers
Basically the same situation as Penthouse – cheesecake covers, lot of sales, a million variants making it tough to know which to buy.  I am not going to be an investor, but there is probably some money to be made here.

Read it

Black Panther #9
Have been really enjoying Eve Ewing’s take on T’Challa.  Turns out there’s a lot more interesting stuff going on in Wakanda than we realized.
Blade #8
Story is decent, but the main reason I am buying is the art.  Elena Casagrande has such a cool style and I love the way she depicts motion.  If her name is on the cover, my wallet is open.

Fall of the House of X #2
Was very underwhelmed by the first issue, but I am willing to give this series a long rope, especially since its one of two books concluding the Krakoa era

Masterpiece #3
I really love Bendis, so I have been giving this series a shot.  Still waiting for it to get really good though.  Not sure how much longer I am willing to wait

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16
Cody Ziglar has nailed Miles’ voice and is doing some interesting things with his world and supporting cast.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #1
I hate that Marvel is interrupting the Scarlet Witch series so we can get this silly 60th anniversary mini.  That being said, I have loved Orlando’s work with Wanda, so I am still gonna pick this up.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #43
Greg Pak has been telling a really fascinating, deeply introspective story about Vader and I have loved it.  This book adds a ton of texture to an already phenomenal character.

Super Scouts #1 & 2
The solicitation for this series basically describes it as Power Rangers meets Galaxy Quest.  That is such a cool concept, I just have to see how they do it.

Superior Spider-Man #4
Still not sure why Marvel revived this premise (again), but the story has been fun.  I am going to stick with it until the fun runs out

Transformers #5
Daniel Warren Johnson is one of the single best creators in comics right now and has been nailing it with every issue

Wolverine #43
This is the climax of Percy’s excellent work in X-Force and Wolverine and Lavalle’s work in  Sabretooth  and  Sabretooth and the Exiles .  Billed as the bloodiest Wolverine story ever told, so far it has definitely lived up to that.
