Outside Looking In for 2/16/24
Welcome to a new column that will spotlight some comics that didn’t quite make the Hot 10 List. Think of this as the honorable mentions and some comics that may not qualify for the regular Hot 10 List.
You might be surprised that some of these didn’t make the main list, but that is not a disservice to any of these books, but a credit to those that made it. Some of the below just didn’t quite have the price increase or volume to warrant a spot yet.
If you haven’t noticed, I do not include any Exclusives on the Main List (Store, Convention, or otherwise). I just don’t feel its equal footing to include those books on the regular list, so I don’t use them there. But sometimes there are Exclusives worth noting, and this is where you may find them going forward, on the Outside Looking In.
Mad Magazine #36
You know why this is selling. Especially after the Super Bowl. But this surprise cover this week quickly jumped from $6 cover to $20+.
More than enough volume to make the main list but since it is a Magazine, it doesn’t qualify; but that makes it a perfect fit for Outside Looking In.
Wolverine #36
Volume has picked back up in the last couple of days with news that Marvel is indeed giving us a Hellverine miniseries in the coming months.
Prices had dipped to $25 but they quickly rebounded to $40-45. CGC 9.8s are $150-160
Ghost Rider #31
Rumors of a possible Midnight Sons project has renewed interest in this title again as it is the accepted 1st appearance of the group. Plenty of cheap copies out there so prices the past week have ben as cheap as $3 and up to $15 for raw copies.
CGC 9.8’s are only about $80 but a newsstand 9.8 will get $120. It will be interesting to see if this picks up any steam for next week.
Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #1
Lots of volume this week following the trailer release, however prices have been anywhere from cover price to about $10. So not a huge jump as of yet and many sets of the entire mini have sold for only $15-25.
The Run the Jewels variant is probably my favorite, but the cover A seems to be the one moving at volume. Plus the Gavin Run the Jewels cover is $20+ on its own.
West Moon Chronicle #1
Another Optioned Scout Book. You know the routine. Will this have any traction beyond the dozen or so sales this week? Only hit a couple high sales of $9 so far. But we’ll see how it plays out.
This list will also be covered each week on my channel by my friends on their Friday Night show, The Qualified: We’re All a Little Damaged. The fellas cover the week’s news in comics and pop culture, and have many other fun comic segments and artist spotlights. Check them out every week on The Qualified at about 9:30pm est immediately following the CBSI Hot 10 Show.
