The Most Fire Cover From This Wednesday’s Releases
2/21/2024
NO INCENTIVE VARIANTS OR STORE EXCLUSIVE VARIANTS ARE COVERED IN THIS ARTICLE. THIS FEATURE IS ABOUT COVER AESTHETICS, ONLY, AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPEC.
HOWEVER… For this week’s INCENTIVES and EXCLUSIVES needs, check out the weekly “COVER LOVERS” podcast with TEAM NERD HERD and me, RIGHT NOW!
Weekly Rundown…
Welcome back to the shortest issue of Cover Fire I’ll ever write. Granted, it was an insane week for and I toyed with not writing one of these at all as a result. However, it is also a pretty uninspiring week for covers, as well. Thus, this is a quick-hit Cover Fire. Three covers. In, out… done.
Let’s dive in.
And this week’s winner is…
Vampirella/Dracula: Rage #5b
PUBLISHED: Dynamite – 2/21/24
ARTIST: Celina
By far, hands down, the unparalleled winner for the week (and this one would have won in almost any week). The anatomical understanding, the lighting, the detailed backdrop, the depth and perspective, the details and – most of all – the attitude on this cover are magnificent! Celina is a sorcerer even on a pedestrian week. On a week like this where she is 1000% on, she has created a masterpiece.

Crying Boy #1a
PUBLISHED: Keenspot – 2/21/24
ARTIST: Carlos Villas
Woh! No idea who this artist is not do I know anything about this book. Isn’t Keenspot the company who does political parodies? Well, this one is horrifying and insane! Fantastic detail and emotion on this. Feels a little “90’s” to me, but that makes me like it a little bit more, actually.

Green Lantern: War Journal #6b
PUBLISHED: DC – 2/20/24
ARTIST: Rahzzah
The overall impact of this cover is awesome even if it isn’t all that compelling of an image. Great colors, too.
Wonder Woman #6c
PUBLISHED: DC – 2/20/24
ARTIST: Julian Totino Tedesco
Todesco continues to be criminally underrated. This is an amazingly dynamic cover. I love it.
Army of Darness: Forever #5a
PUBLISHED: Dynamite – 2/21/24
ARTIST: Francesco Mattina
Gross, horrifying, unsettling and downright amazing! This is what I want from Mattina. He rarely delivers this level of art to us any longer, but every once in a while, he hits hard.

And that, my friends, is really all she wrote. Like I said, there is not a lot to be excited about for the week. These are really the only ones that do anything for me. Chime in down in the comments and let me know what you think and tell me what I missed. Until next time, stay safe, be good to each other, thanks for reading, and happy hunting.
