Happy birthday, Dragonlance!

In 1984, things changed for both players of table-top roleplaying games and readers of epic fantasy. TSR printed its first Dragonlance short story, “Test of the Twins” by Margaret Weis, in Dragon Magazine Issue 83. To celebrate Dragonlance’s 40th birthday, I am hosting a giveaway. Details can be found at the bottom of this post.

Since “Test of the Twins” debuted in Dragon Magazine , Dragonlance has grown to include over one hundred ninety different novels by several authors, board games, art cards, comics, and more. And that isn’t even counting the D&D modules.

After a time spent traveling different worlds (remarkably like kender), authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have returned with Dragonlance Destinies, a new trilogy. The first two books, Dragons of Deceit and Dragons of Fate are available now. The final book, Dragons of Eternity will be releasing later this year, and it promises to be amazing. One of the cool things about Dragonlance Destinies is that it can also be a jumping in point for new readers (although there will be some things that hit differently for those who have read the Dragonlance Chronicles first).

I have been privileged to interview several authors over the past few years and many of them cite Dragonlance as one of their writing inspirations . There is something special about the series that continues to resonate with people.

Author Margaret Weis has generously provided a copy of Dragons of Deceit. To be entered to win, simply comment whether you are a new reader of Dragonlance or a returning fan (I’d love to know your favorite character if you have one). U.S. only due to shipping costs. The giveaway will end on March 18th. Good luck! Happy 40th anniversary, Dragonlance!
