Wednesday One 3/12/24
Every week we look at the new comics coming out and figure out what’s selling, what has potential, and what’s worth reading. Lets dive in!!
Already Selling
These are books that already have multiple sales well-over the base price or
Lady Death: Imperial Requiem #1 Kickstarter Variants
There were a LOT of variants for this book that were only available as Kickstarter rewards. All the books seem to be selling above buy-in, but bare in mind that, if you are buying in at this point, you are banking on finding someone who is a big Lady Death fan that did not know about the Kickstarter, but is now willing to really overspend. Not saying that person does not exist, but I do not know how many are out there.
House of Slaughter #21 One-Per-Store Secret Variant
There are several good sales for this book, but prices are very inconsistent. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze here.
Spider-Gwen: Smash #4 1:25 Dodson Variant
Only three sales so far, but all of them have been at or above ratio and, as of this writing, there are no copies listed on Ebay. Hard to imagine many shops ordered 25 copies to qualify for this variant, so this book may some some scarcity working in its favor.
Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #1 1:100 Greg Land Virgin Variant
Only two sales, but both were at ratio and its not like this book will be easy to find. Then again, nobody should want to find it because Greg Land is a hack who steals from others .
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #149 Clayton Crain Virgin Ltd Variant
Only three sales, but they have all been for $100 or more. Can’t argue with numbers like that.
Has Potential
These are books that are not selling out the gate, but I think could slowly rise in value
Thundercats #2
There are way, Way, WAY more sales on this book than I would have ever expected. If the series can maintain its readership, there is a long term path to profitability. Far from a sure thing though and the sales have usually been at cover, so its only a “Has Potential” book for now.
Piquing My Interest
These are the books I find interesting as a reader or collector.
Avengers: Twilight #4
Zdarsky and Acuna are cooking. Feels almost like the Marvel version of Kingdom Come
Transformers #6
Bummed that DWJ will only be the writer soon and not the artist as well, but at this point Skybound has earned my faith in their Energon Universe.
Fall of the House of X #3
I want to like this series because its supposed to be a major closing chapter in the Krakoa story, but Duggan feels out of his depth here. Series is not bad, it just does not feel worth it yet.
Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #1
Benjamin Percy absolutely crushed it on Ghost Rider and I cannot wait to see what he does next. Highly recommend people check this out.
Immortal Thor #8
It still feels like this book is slightly in setup mode, but Ewing has the character’s voices nailed down and his love of Thor lore is very clear. Willing to give this book plenty of time to cook
Napalm Lullaby #1
Not a huge Rick Remender fan, but “Napalm Lullaby” is maybe the coolest name ever for a comic. Gametime decision for me.
Star Wars: Darth Vader #44
This series is incredible. Pak totally gets who Vader is as a character and masterfully leans into the tragedy that underlies his narrative.
Wolverine #45
Loving Wolverine as a biweekly book. Lavalle and Percy are a great team and Sabretooth’s sadistic glee is a sight to behold
Ultimate Black Panther #2
Probably the weakest of the new Ultimate books so far. First issue was not bad, it just felt like a lot of other, previous Black Panther stories. Hoping that, as the series moves forward, it starts to find its own unique voice.
