Dear readers … forgive the less than stellar blogging performance from January to now. We – my husband and I – have been coping with a major water leak at the house. Apparently, while we were away over Christmas, 250 gallons of water an hour spread through our house for 18 days . The consequences have been enormous, required hours and hours of work and meant that we’ve been living like nomads for many, many weeks.
Kitchen – post remediation for water and mold damage
Four rooms in our house, including the kitchen, were seriously damaged not just by water but also because of the mold that grew from prolonged exposure to water and warmth . Someone was supposed to check the house while we were away, but they did not do so. To make matters worse, the insurance company has been less than helpful.
Bedroom – drywall and flooring removed
We spent weeks finding the right remediation company to get rid of the water and mold damage. That was followed by many more weeks to find a contractor who will rebuild the four rooms involved and many hours to find new appliances for the kitchen and so on.
So, here’s my suggestion: TURN THE WATER OFF when you go away!!
Bathroom – where the leak began
Laundry room
Hopefully, we’ve learned an important lesson. With some luck, regularly blogging will soon reappear.
