Outside Looking In for 4-12-24
Welcome to a new column that will spotlight some comics that didn’t quite make the Hot 10 List. Think of this as the honorable mentions and some comics that may not qualify for the regular Hot 10 List.
You might be surprised that some of these didn’t make the main list, but that is not a disservice to any of these books, but a credit to those that made it. Some of the below just didn’t quite have the price increase or volume to warrant a spot yet.
If you haven’t noticed, I do not include any Exclusives on the Main List (Store, Convention, or otherwise). I just don’t feel its equal footing to include those books on the regular list, so I don’t use them there. But sometimes there are Exclusives worth noting, and this is where you may find them going forward, on the Outside Looking In.
Harley Quinn #37 1:50
Volumes not high but sale prices are impressive matching those highs from nearly a month ago. This one almost made the list as last week’s CGC 9.8 selling for $605, set the stage for 2 raw sales this week exceeding $400. What keep it off the list this week however was the most recent sale of $350 which appears like a downward trend.
Granted that was a buy it now sale so he seller only wanted $350 and got it while the prior sale hit $455 at auction on 29 bids. This book has been in this $400 range for a month+ so we’ll see what happens as there aren’t many copies available, and those that are listed are $500+. So not enough momentum to get back on the list, but close enough to keep an eye on.
Sandman #25
1st appearance of Dead Boy Detectives is one to watch as the premiere of this series is less than 2 weeks away. The price remains strong at $30-40 raw, but we’ll keep an eye on the volumes and watch for any spikes as we close in on that April 25th premiere.
X-Men ’97 #2 1:100
Another Marvel 1:100 virgin that may or may not have legs. So far this gorgeous David Mack cover had a presale of $175 earlier this week, and then after release we had only one sale at $120.
Not a huge premium, but given the rest of the market is seeking $175, we’ll see what happens next which is why this is on the Outside Looking In.
Uncanny X-Men #188
While everyone’s jaws are still dropped from Ep 5 of X-Men ’97, let’s not overlook last week’s episode 4 which teased more involvement from the villain The Adversary. This character will prob come back into play soon as we still have Life Death Part 2 spotlight Forge and Storm.
In any event this 1st cameo appearance of The Adversary is gaining steam as cheap copies are clearing out and we are seeing early high sales of $15. We’ll keep an eye on this one as the week goes on.
Uncanny X-Men #227
In addition to that cameo we are also seeing a bunch of copies of this issue moving as well. Are they building towards this Fall of Mutants event as well? Or are we just looking for more Adversary appearances in comics?
Either way, this books is selling volumes even if the prices are very cheap. Will the price rise as interest gains? Time will tell if it does enough to make the main list, but for now we’ll keep this on the OLI.
This list will also be covered each week on my channel by my friends on their Friday Night show, The Qualified: We’re All a Little Damaged. The fellas cover the week’s news in comics and pop culture, and have many other fun comic segments and artist spotlights. Check them out every week on The Qualified at about 9:30pm est immediately following the CBSI Hot 10 Show.
