Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action ‘Hercules’ Remake Still Moving Ahead at Disney

 
Despite the box office failure of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare , Guy Ritchie’s live-action Hercules remake is reportedly still moving forward, making it his second Disney classic remake after Aladdin . Producers Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed the project’s continuation, albeit at a slow pace due to the lack of a finalized script from Ritchie. They mentioned, “We’re still waiting on a script” from Ritchie when asked about the remake’s progress. The film’s development faced setbacks, including industry strikes and the COVID-19 pandemic, since its initial confirmation in 2020.
 
Despite Ritchie’s involvement in various projects like  The Gentlemen series adaptation for Netflix, the Hercules remake remains on his slate. He is currently balancing multiple projects, including Aladdin 2 and The Donovans TV show. However, the remake’s progress has been uncertain, given Ritchie’s busy schedule and the lack of a completed script.
 
Disney’s live-action remakes have had mixed receptions, with successes like The Jungle Book, The Lion King  and Cruella contrasting with critical failures such as Dumbo, The Little Mermaid and Ritchie’s Aladdin . The company’s track record with remakes has been inconsistent, leaving audiences uncertain about the quality of upcoming projects like Hercules . Despite the challenges and uncertainties, Ritchie’s involvement in the project adds anticipation, given his previous successes.
