A quick recap for this fabulous series. Garrison Downs patriarch Holt Waverly suddenly dies. His three daughters raised at Garrison Downs—and one other daughter no-one knew about until his death—have one year to marry due to an old entail in his will, to be able to inherit the station forever.
Anastasia Horvath is the daughter no-one knew about. A half-sister to Tilly, Evie and Rose Waverly. She’s always known who her father is, but everyone in her family—her mother and her grandparents—have kept the secret. To the greater world Ana’s father is dead. But after her father’s actual death the truth has come out, and she’s been beautifully welcomed to Garrison Downs by her sisters. In fact, they’re rather upset they’ve been kept apart all this time.
Which is an unexpected bonus, but it doesn’t solve the problem of who Ana should marry—with only six months to go to deadline. She obviously doesn’t want to let her ‘new’ sisters down and fail the entail in the will.
Connor O’Brien is the boy next door, her best friend since childhood. Two years older than her, he’s been her rock and her support as she’s struggled to get through the all-too-brief visits from her father. He’s watched as her mother Lili has brought Ana up for all appearances as a single mother. It hasn’t been easy.
But Connor is Connor. He’s special to her family, her mother and her Hungarian grandparents. Tall and blond, with a big easy smile. Kind, smart and considerate to everyone. A multi-millionaire in his own right, working as a veterinarian for charitable causes and endangered species. Gives great hugs.
The only time he faltered was when his father and mother divorced in bitter circumstances when he was a teen, leaving him wary and distrustful of marriage. Relationships yes, marriage no. He’s definitely friend-zoned Ana, and she him. Both of them don’t want to risk losing their friendship by pushing for anything more, although they’ve had some definite sparky moments together.
So … Should Ana ask Connor to marry her for a year, to fulfil the entail in the will? He’s about the only man in the world she can trust in this delicate situation. One year, and then they can go their separate ways and be friends again?
This is such a lovely read, watching the tentative romance unfold between Ana and Connor. Kandy Shepherd has worked her magic yet again.
