What did you like about the book? Would that every child could have a relationship with a grandparent as special and precious as this story portrays.  Waking up, a young boy remembers that he is going to the beach with Grandpa where they can go tide-pooling, build the best sandcastle in the world, have ice cream, swim in the ocean and find pirate treasure. Preparations do not take long.  Soon they are climbing down a very steep cliff via a very long set of steps.  They look for sea creatures, spend hours building their castle (totally amazing!), eat their ice cream cones and then… and then they find a young seal all tangled up in a fishing net. After untangling the net, they borrow a boat and set sail to take the seal back to its family. The dark and ominous clouds turn into a storm but on they travel. Look! There’s the family of seals! Grandpa, the boy and the seal family swim in the depths of the ocean until they find pirate treasure! Time to go home… The ink and watercolor illustrations are soft pastel and filled with love and adventure – reminiscent of Edward Ardizzone and Stephen Michael King.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is the fourth entry in the Nature Quartet series which consisted of Lost , Wild , Free and Found .  If you have enjoyed these others, you will surely enjoy this one as well.
