“Cure For Pain”
Holy Trinity cemetery – Upper Manhattan, a small contingency of the X-Men have just landed near the historical site in search of answers. Jubilee received a help request through one of her many social media accounts earlier that day. The odd thing about the request was where it originated from. Someone had sent it from one of the Avengers’ abandoned auxiliary bases buried deep under the cemetery grounds.
Logan and Jean Grey lead the way as they enter into the complex and begin to investigate. Jubilee sends multiple light orbs down the darkened hallways while Jean uses her telepathy to scan for thought patterns. At first all the X-Men find are outdated computer terminals and storage lockers. Then a dark presence catches Jean’s mind. Something evil this way comes!
Will the X-men discover who is dumping body parts in and around Kennebunkport Maine? Who is the stranger dawning the title of the “Curator”? Can the vampires of the Unforgiven track down Redblood before she escapes justice? Collect the series to find out!

Now this is how modern comic books should be! Take notes Rainbow Rowell, Peter David, and Dan Slott. I’m not a huge X-Men fan per say, but I do love a well written storyline. Tim Seeley takes the reins of the Unforgiven plot and weaves in some classic Avengers X-Men references. Tim Seeley even refers to Uncanny X-Men number 40 from 1968. Can you say Frankenstein’s monster? I knew that you could.
I didn’t realize the Frankenstein mythos had expanded so much in the Marvel universe. The late silver and early bronze age sure produced a lot of gems. The “Curator” is a pretty sinister part of the book and is apparently in X-Men 40. I have to look back to my old Monster Frankenstein issues 1-3. I believe the villain might be the ship captain in those stories. There are a couple scenes in this book which reminded me of “30 Days of Night” movie (another one of my favorites). Since I have Uncanny X-Men 40 it is going to the top of my reading list.
I’m giving X-Men Unforgiven 5 out of 5 stars.
