Weekly Rundown…
Welcome back to Cover Fire! Another medium week with a few amazing covers and a lot of meh. I only have a few brief notes before we begin:

The Ross covers are great again (as usual). He has his own section again.
I want the Yoda covers to be better. Sigh!

That’s all I have. Let’s get to it…
And this week’s winner is…

Last Barbarians #3a
PUBLISHED: Image – 4/19/23
ARTIST: Brian Haberlin
Another absolutely stunning Haberlin cover for this series (he actually has three for this issue, again) with wonderful lighting and shadows from the flames, a beautiful girl who looks tough and has fantastic rendering all-around. Every Haberlin cover for this series is worth looking up if you managed to miss any of them.

She-Hulk #12c
PUBLISHED: Marvel – 4/19/23
ARTIST: Jeehyung Lee
Gorgeous lines and very sexy. I especially love the hair. Even though it’s a little too digital and shiny for my tastes, I assume this will be the winner this week for a lot of you even though I preferred the Haberlin, above.

Superman #3c
PUBLISHED: DC – 4/18/23
ARTIST: Francesco Mattina
Fantastic use of light (which is a rarity for Mattina) and the cover is really impactful as a result.

Gunslinger Spawn #19b
PUBLISHED: Image – 4/19/23
ARTIST: Francesco Tomaselli
I really love the exaggerated nature of the art on this one. The layout is solid and it has nice depth and mood to it. It’s tough to get a Spawn book to stand out, yet this one manages to do it.

Billionaire Island: Cult of Dogs #6
PUBLISHED: Ahoy – 4/19/23
ARTIST: Steve Pugh
This is super-macabre and I love the homage to “Dogs Playing Poker” by Marcellus. A really well-executed cover.

Wonder Woman #798b
PUBLISHED: DC – 4/18/23
ARTIST: Joelle Jones
This is really pretty. I’m not usually a fan of the “just heads” covers, but this one is fantastic with great pop and beautiful lines, but it’s the eyes that really do it… well… eye (singular). Joelle Jones continues to be criminally underrated.

Catwoman 54b
PUBLISHED: DC – 4/18/23
ARTIST: Joshua “Sway” Swaby
I feel like I’ve seen this cover before (because I have), but it is a solid cover with great perspective and nice lines and color. Great work on the suit shine and diamond sparkle.

WORTH A 2nd LOOK
*****

Batgirls #17b – David Marquez – DC – 4/18/23

Nice lines and great color. This almost made the main list.

DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #8b – Jay Anacleto – DC – 4/18/23

I’m never sure how I feel about these “zombiefied” homages. The original Hughes is awesome and so is Anacleto’s work, I’m just not sure about the concept. It’s a little tired.

Wonder Woman #798c – Jeff Dekal – DC – 4/18/23

A good-not-great Dekal (let’s face it, they’re all at least good). His lines are always beautiful, but the layout just doesn’t quite do it for me.

Darkwing Duck #4b – Mirka Andolfo – Dynamite – 4/19/23

I really like the “prelim” feel of this cover and the loose coloring. It feels like animation which is the point, right?

Darkwing Duck #4s – Cat Staggs – Dynamite – 4/19/23

Soooooo many covers, but this one is another excellent layout and I’m a sucker for the relic look.

Hellcat #2b – Phil Noto – Marvel – 4/19/23

Your mileage may vary on this one, but I love the old Golden Age romance Comic feel of this cover. Noto got it just right.

Chilling Adventures Presents: Cult of that Wilkins Boy #1b – Robert Hack – Archie – 4/19/23

I mean, it is just a skull, but it’s still cool as hell.

ALEX ROSS TIMELESS SECTION
*****

Amazing Spider-Man #24b – Alex Ross – Marvel – 4/19/23

This one is excellent… one of the best in the run.

Avengers Assemble: Omega #1c – Alex Ross – Marvel – 4/19/23

I probably should have put this one up in the main section, but I decided to keep them all together down here, this week. This is one is another fantastic rendition of a fan-favorite.

Red Goblin #3b – Alex Ross – Marvel – 4/19/23

As good as one could expect for a character who isn’t much of a standout design to begin with.

Warlock: Rebirth #1c – Alex Ross – Marvel – 4/19/23

Another fan favorite done expertly by a master. Tough to not want this one.

Another slim week, but still some wonderful covers toward the top of the list. Hopefully, there’s something for you this week. Drop a comment and tell me what I missed and what you plan to snag on Wednesday. Until next time, stay cool, be good to each other, thanks for reading and happy hunting.
