Scarlet Witch | Marvel Magic Returns
Adam Hughes Scarlet Witch has cast a spell that may bring me back to The House Of Ideas . Rus Steve Orlando writer | Sara Pichelli artist | Elisabetta D'Amico inks assist | Matt Wilson colours Russell Dauterman cover artist | Adam Hughes variant cover artist | Stan Lee & Jack Kirby creators Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse Comics, and other independent publishers have dominated my subs for more than ten years. The few Marvel Comic books I bought were back issues. I've tried to get back into The House Of Ideas in the past, most recently with Jonathan Hickman 's run on The X-Men in July 2019, but the price tag of reading eight or more X-books a month made it unfeasible. After reading Scarlet Witch #1 (volume 3), I can see myself " making mine Marvel " again (at least for one title). What brought me back? Sara Pichelli 's art and Matt Wilson 's colours for starters. Scarlet Witch is a gorgeously drawn and coloured comic book. I enjoyed Pichelli 's work on Miles Morales Spider-Man and Wilson was the colourist on one of my all-time favourite Image Comics titles, Paper Girls . Steve Orlando 's take on Wanda Maximoff/ is original, and brings us a more proactive, confident, mentally healthy Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver and D'Arcy make up the Scarlet Witch supporting cast. Scarlet Witch runs a curio/coffee shop but that's a cover for her to help people who need her help. The first adversary of this Scarlet Witch series is The Corruptor (read his origin here ) who has taken over the minds and lives of a small, Italian town. A successful first issue is one that makes you look forward to the second. Orlando 's economical scripting and Pichelli 's art accomplish that. If Marvel is smart, this is a team that it will keep together for more than a single story arc. Bonus: My History With The Scarlet Witch My first Scarlet Witch story was in The Avengers #s 186 and 187 (found both on a spinner-rack) in the "Nights Of Wundagore" storyline which delves into Wanda and Pietro's backstory (read synopsis here ) The Scarlet Witch became a more formidable character in my eyes in the classic Avengers Annual #10 (December 1981) by Chris Claremont and Michael Golden . Read Marvel Fandom's Scarlet Witch wiki for more information and stories. On the screens, Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness gives a Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch a bittersweet coda. I can't say it's a great movie, but it's entertaining.
