White, Robb.    No Man’s Land (Published in 1969 by Doubleday and Company, Garden City, NY).  Garth Larson is a twenty-five year old marine toxicologist all alone doing work on the deserted island of Molahve in the South Pacific where he is studying the local fauna.  It seems that the island is covered by a “taboo” in local legend that keeps people away not only from the island itself, but also the immediate general area. While this causes some problems, the trouble really starts when Garth discovers a sunken W.W. II sub chaser in the lagoon that is uncovered when a typhoon washes away much of the sandy bottom of the lagoon.

There is something on the sunken boat that people are willing to kill for, and several other people come to the atoll looking for it.  What does Garth find that is so valuable?  How can he keep it hidden so that it will not be stolen?  And will he even survive the threats on his life after the arrival of a boatload of savages in war paint?  I’m a sucker for almost any book set on the islands of the South Pacific.  This novel is labeled Young Adult, but I found it enjoyable and well written with characters that are fairly well developed, and the plot consistent, with some very nice twists.
