Preparing for Taylor

Cally Taylor’s The Escape is the first book I’m reading in preparation for my interview with her for my book on psychological thrillers. Although I’ve read several of her books already, this is what I’d class as an archetype psychological thriller with all of the expected elements present.

There is a scared mother, a young child and a strange woman who turns up. There are tension points as to why this strange woman involved herself in Jo’s life when she first makes the initial threat that the book revolves around. It makes you wonder how Jo, who is suffering from Agoraphobia, will escape the threat of this woman and what does her husband, Max, have to do with the threat?

This book is probably the best one of hers that I’ve read, although all of Cally’s books are different from each other. In the past I’ve read books involving cults, a security guard and a mail delivery woman, as well as other numerous characters. Cally has a talent for bringing up tension from almost anything.

I’m really looking forward to chatting to her about her career so far and how she thinks psychological thrillers are made and what the best elements of those books are. This will be my first review to go on my author page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094154688681
