“Strangers In Paradise”
Jack Pierce, Worley, and Chang have just met their rescuers in the mysterious underwater stronghold known as the Deephold. Built by an unknown player in the escalating events, Professor Bjornseth can only pass on her theories to Jack and his crew. It is apparent the facility was built to accommodate both human sized individuals as well as the mecha units. The event with Terry Pierce and his recent bonding with the island mecha has triggered the full activation of the Deephold power systems. Jack’s only concern, however, is to talk Bjornseth into helping rescue his son Terry. Will the professor use her “Manta” mecha to raid the U.S. Navy ships?
Inside a secret military base – Novosibirsk, the Russian military has just been giving a direct order to recover the recently discovered mecha from the U.S. Navy’s island operation. Reports have come in that the American frigate and destroyer ships are in turmoil due to the recent attack by the underwater mecha. Now is the time to strike as the island is located in international waters. After deep thought, Dr. Tarnofsky authorizes the use of his reversed engineered mecha to support Captain Rezkova’s “Dancer”. His only concern is pilot inexperience in robotic combat.
Will Keene follow Colonel Merek’s orders and kill both Hyer and Terry Pierce? How close is the mysterious pilot and the purple mecha from reaching Earth? Can the “Iron Maiden” survive combat with a damaged left forearm? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
This is another action packed issue of Dark Horse Comics Mecha series. We now know the Deephold is some type of alien military structure. Colonel Merek’s plans to kill Hyer and Terry are apparently clean at this point. All we need to know is who is the pilot of the Naganata mecha.
Overall the art and writing are excellent, however the color is missing from this issue as well. There is no explanation given this time. It would have been nice to see the reason why. For me, I find it interesting to see the struggles of an indie label.
We do get a detailed diagram of Captain Rezkova’s “Dancer” mecha. Too bad it wasn’t colorized. Overall I’m giving this book 4 outof five stars. Until next time.
