A whole new Commitment

Chris Merritt’s Committed is the first book I’ve finished since the launch of my new author page. Heather Critchlow was the first event, however, this book was the first time I’d ever had an author reading as a new way to look at promoting crime fiction, not just friends in the industry, but indirectly my own by hopefully attracting new readers to my site by providing original content.



This is one of the very few books that I’ve read through the Netgalley App, as their approach to audio is very different to the other formats on their site. You can only really get Netgalley copies if you already have a connection to the author themselves, or their publisher. Whereas other e-book forms can be easily applied for. As a consequence of my busy schedule, I had this book in my library about a week before publication, but was about 3 chapters in when Chris read out the opening of the book on my site, refreshing my own excitement as I had just read this intriguing opening not too long before.



This is now the second Chris Merritt book that I’ve read, both for online events that I’ve done, but this was completely different to his previous psychological thriller, which has a smaller cast and was completely different in style. Chris’s experience within the field of forensic psychology was evident within this book and it was really well constructed in the hospital scenes in part one. It was a really intriguing premise to have a national security operative come across something and then be disbelieved to the point that she has been committed into hospital. The journey type approach of this book was well laid out as a spy thriller and it kept me gripped right up until the very end.
