Let’s Talk Comics Vol 6
This article covers recent news and trends in comics, as well as random topics that I just feel like making fun of. Enjoy!
UPDATE: A few weeks ago in an article I made a not particularly funny remark about Donny Cates leaving readers hanging on stories. Since then, new details have come to light about a life-threatening accident that forced Mr. Cates to stop working on several projects. While I highly doubt that what I wrote even vaguely impacted Donny or made it into his orbit, I still want to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to him and own up to making an uninformed joke at his expense. Would be pretty hypocritical for me to call out writers, artists, studios, commenters, and others like I do without owning up to my mistakes as well.
1 Bounding Into Comics
I am not sure I have ever seen a comic book site report stories in bad faith as often as this one.
2 DC Movies Before Superman Legacy
Why are they even bothering? Was the $200 million loss on The Flash not a big enough indicator that people are not interested in the last gasps of the DCEU? It would serve DC a lot better to shelve the Aquaman sequel and let people miss the franchise
3 IDW
Its gotta be a rough time to be a licensed comic company with no popular licenses besides a hedgehog.
4 Dell’Otto Venomverse Covers
Got nothing snarky for these covers, they just look awesome and I want them
5 Gang War
This seems like such a cool idea . I just have no faith in the current Spidey office to execute. Really bums me out how alienated I and so many others feel from Spider-Man because of this run.
6 More Rob Liefeld Books
Wait a second. Foil variants are popping up left and right . Greg Capullo is working at Marvel . Rob Liefeld is popular . Swimsuit issues are coming back . Whoever brought us all back in time to the 90s era of comics, please make it stop!
7 Iman Vellani Writing Ms. Marvel
The circumstances leading to this series are a dumpster fire, but I am really excited for Iman’s comic debut . As comic book fans, we all dream of getting to write our own stories for our favorite characters and she is living the dream!
8 Kraven Delayed By Writers Strike
Oh no…what a bummer. That movie looked really…good?? This must be such a huge disappointment for the tens of people who have liked Sony’s Spidey Villain projects
9 Will Jack’s Power Girl Pinup
Am I the only one who feels like we have slid into the uncanny valley with this one? Also, still kinda weirded out by the concept of swimsuit issues for fictional characters. Pretty sure there is a whole section of the internet just for photos of attractive women in swimsuits. Its called Reddit
10 Pablo Villalobos’ Wonder Woman Pinup
I take it back, swimsuit issues are awesome

Marvel Comics: The Untold Story
If you are a comic book history nerd like I am, I strongly recommend this book. Really fascinating read that gave me a deeper appreciation for some of my favorite characters (and really made me hate Rob Liefeld)
BOOM’s MTG
One of the best things about Magic The Gathering is it’s deep lore. BOOM so far has done a great job of honoring what came before while charting its own narrative path. As someone who has played Magic for almost 20 years and loved comics for 25, I have been thrilled with what they have done. Would highly recommend picking up back issues or trades
