Rewind, Recap: Weekly Update W/E 21/08/23

Full disclosure – I have not read a lot this week. Still better than no reading at all, but I’m in the middle of a pretty in depth training course at work, with two more days this week, and I have been mentally drained by the end of the day so reading has been hard going. Added to that, Mandie and I were away in the city this weekend, and with little reading time other than on the train, I’ve just not managed to do a lot over the weekend either. Usually I’d be holed up after the weekend shop, avoiding people and things and just reading. This week, I’ve seen more people and things than I’d usually manage in a fortnight, so pages have been few. 69k steps over the two days meant that I was too tired to really focus on reading on the way home either, so whilst I managed some reading Saturday night, it wasn’t a lot.

My daily step count – Friday 40,336 and Saturday 28,358. 16.34 and 11.34 miles respectively.

It was totally worth it though. Hit London around half nine on Friday, walked from Euston to Leicester Square and stopped for a coffee. Went to Waterstones Piccadilly, then Fortnum and Mason, round to pay our respects at the Yvonne Fletcher memorial, down and through St James Park, then on to Green Park by way of Buckingham Palace, onward to Hyde Park, through to Kensington Gardens, back to Hyde Park and down Piccadilly to Covent Garden. Then it was back to Kings Cross where our hotel was located. In the evening we took a walk over to Oxford Street to the theatre – Wizard of Oz – most excellent – then walked back to Kings Cross. 16 miles in total – phew.

Scenes from the city. Birds and sights around the London Parks.

Saturday saw us walk west from Kings Cross to Regents Park, have a good wander through the park – not really done that before – head over to and around London Zoo – not done that in decades – then took a nice leisurely walk up the canal path to Camden Market and back down to Kings Cross, before heading back to Euston for the train home. Less miles (11) but with totally aching feet … Slept well that night
