Welcome Back!

It's  year 15 for this blog, and I’m looking forward to more great conversations
about nonfiction for young readers. A whole lot has changed since 2009. The
nonfiction just keeps on blooming and growing and evolving. It’s so exciting to
see the transformation happening right before our eyes.

One of the best things that’s happened to nonfiction in 2023 is the
National Council of Teachers of English’s   Position
Statement on the Role of Nonfiction Literature (K-12 ) . If
you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, I highly recommend you take about 15
minutes to do so now.

Here's  one of my favorite quotations:
“ With so much to offer young people as readers
and thinkers, nonfiction should play a far more robust role in the reading and
learning lives of young people in and out of school.”

I couldn’t
agree more, and I’m looking forward to discussing how we can make that happen.

Have a great
school year, Everyone!
