Almost there with Warren

When reading book 6 and Warren’s trials with IVF, I became really aware of the importance of reading books in order, although it’s been a while since I read book 6, here’s the review:








A steep price




As I said in the review for book 6, Paul’s universe is highly complex and has a lot of police characters in it and is well researched as to the nature of how things work. This one, is probably his most complicated yet that I’ve read. It opens with a short prologue where a body is dumped in a ditch and the opening chapters explain how complicated it is in reality to identify a body and the realities behind time of death and with the use of CCTV as a major part of the plot, I can see why the book is called Out of Sight.



For the first third of the novel, you don’t even know where the death occurred. Because it took so long to identify who the body was, when it was finally identified it was even more complicated to discover a motive, because they didn’t know when he died. This, as a premise for a book, is something that I’ve not seen done very often. Coupled with the number of suspects involved and the inclusion of crimes not very often looked at in crime fiction, this is by far Paul’s best book yet. Although it took me longer to read it, as the plot is so complicated that I needed to absorb what was going on in order to understand it better.



If I ask him about any books previous to his latest one, when we are on the panel at Crime Cymru, this will probably be the book where I base most of my questions, because of its complexity. We’re now getting close to the recording of the panel and I’m really looking forward to it. With the deadline coming up, though, I’ll be reading his 8th book next.
